More
about me.
I've lived in the Cambridge area almost all of my life,
and lived in Rampton, Oakington, St. Ives, and Huntingdon,
prior to moving to Fulbourn in 2008. I graduated from
Keele University in 2001, with a BSc Dual Honours Degree
in Biology, Sociology and Social Anthropology, before
resuming a career in IT, which I had started during my gap
year, which I spent working for Ionica on the Milton Road
Science Park.
I've
worked for large American companies, at the headquarters
of a Europe-wide leisure company as well as completing
contracts with Cambridge County Council and several
private companies, all within the field of IT.
Most recently I was employed
as a Team Leader by a local Higher Education
Institution, in their IT Support Team. These jobs have
enabled me to achieve accreditation in Microsoft
applications and operating systems, MacOS, Cisco devices
and PRINCE2 project management, among other things.
I've
always had an interest in technology and
troubleshooting, which has underpinned my career and
I've worked with everything from Acorn RISC OS computers
to PCs running anything from DOS to all versions of
Windows from 3.1 to the current version of Windows 11. I
also have experience with troubleshooting and supporting
MacOS, IOS and Android devices for professional and
private users.
Working
for so long in the field of IT support has taught me
that the job is as much about people as it is the
devices they are using and I'm very at home relating to
all levels of ability and complexity, always with the
focus to make the technology work for the individual and
their needs.
Becoming
self-employed is a step I took after the COVID pandemic,
partly because I realised that I enjoyed working from
home, but mainly because doing so gives me the
flexibiity I need to look after my daughter who was born
in 2019.
As
well as computers I enjoy repairing and maintaining
classic cars, repairing modern cars and bicycles, along
with photography, gardening and cycling.
